Nourish & Explore

An eating behaviour program for young people aged 9-15

Eating is one of the most sensory-rich experiences we have and for some young people, that complexity can make mealtimes genuinely challenging.

Is Nourish & Explore right for your young person?

Nourish & Explore is designed for children and adolescents aged 9–15 who may be experiencing:

Rigid or restricted eating patterns, or anxiety around food and social eating situations

Disengagement from family meals or a loss of interest in food

Emerging comments about body image or food rules

Eating behaviours that are affecting school life, friendships, or family wellbeing

About the program

Nourish & Explore is a 10-session program that takes a practical, curiosity-led approach to food. The goal is not to "fix" eating, but to help young people build a healthy, confident relationship with food that will serve them for life.

During the sessions we give the autonomy to question, choose, and build food confidence at their own pace.

Robyn's dual training as a Certified Practicing Nutritionist and qualified counsellor is central to this program. Sessions combine evidence-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with hands-on food exploration — addressing the emotional, psychological, and nutritional dimensions of eating together, at a pace that respects each young person's readiness. Parents are kept informed and involved throughout. Available in-clinic or via Zoom.

The 3 stages approach

Stage One — Explore

Understanding what triggers difficult eating behaviours, establishing goals, and introducing practical food activities. Young people develop their own food language — learning to describe flavours, textures, and sensory experiences in a way that opens up conversation.

You'll also receive practical tips, home activities, and resources through the patient portal to support your child between sessions, and Robyn will check in with you along the way to make sure the program is working for your whole family.

Typically 4 sessions

Stage Two — Build

Expanding dietary variety and nutritional knowledge — exploring how nutrients support a growing body, foods that help energy and concentration, and skills around breakfast and snack preparation all build towards food confidence using food exploration with evidence-based CBT.

Typically 5 sessions

Stage Three — Sustain

Reviewing progress and building a practical plan to continue developing healthy eating habits beyond the program, including a realistic weekly meal plan.

Typically 1-3 sessions

Adolescence is a time when young people are forming their own identity — including their relationship with food.

Robyn's approach is built on respect, curiosity, and genuine partnership. As a counsellor as well as a nutritionist, she works with the emotional complexity that often underlies difficult eating at this stage of life, while keeping sessions practical, engaging, and grounded in everyday reality.
